Sunberry Waffle Socks

First finished Ravellenics project:

Pattern: Blueberry Waffle Socks by Sandy Turner
Needle: 2.75 mm
Yarn: Felici Sport in Sunny Day
Modifications: Adapted to toe up, 48 total stitches

They are also pair ten of twelve that I'm hoping to knit this year! (two more pairs to go! yay!) And they are modeled, for the first time, on the sock blockers Scott made me :) 

This pattern has become one of my favorites! It is easy to memorize and to adapt. And it is so quick in sport weight! It makes an excellent textured sock that works well with self-striping yarn (and is a little more interesting than plain stockinette socks).

My next Ravellenic project is Dot the Dress Up Box Monster for the Toy Toss event.

A little behind...

I have so many things to tell you!

1. I had taken a step away from the computer for awhile to watch the Olympics and compete in the Ravellenics:

2. Scott and I went camping at Diamond Lake:

A very roomy camp site! a small creek ran on the left and it was wonderful

our tent, without the rain fly on yet. My sleeping bag is the orange and white one, and I LOVE it! So squishy and warm. It's a Kelty Down 0 degrees.

Driving to Three Lakes Peak, about 7500 feet elevation! We hiked to two of the lakes

One of the roads hadn't been cleared away for some time! We encountered several downed trees, and eventually had to turn around when a HUGE tree was in the road :)

3. I joined a stitch marker swap (on Ravelry) for the month of July, and received my package!

I was so spoiled!!!

I couldn't resist taking a photo of the ice cream bowls my partner sent me, IN USE! I love them, they are fun, and I love ice cream! woo hoo!

Some progress

Last night I started my journal:

I love Moleskins, especially these gridded ones! I've been using them for the past five or six years -for note taking, as an agenda, and for creative writing. Without having read the Happiness Project or knowing much about it, I think it has been so successful for some people because it makes them summarize their day in just a few sentences, forcing them to think about the key moments of that day. Hopefully, we have more positive moments than negative, and so if you are always focusing on those moments you would be happier. This is probably how I'm going to focus my entries :)

Last night I made a tuna cheese casserole:

it just has tuna, peas, noodles, cream of potato soup, and shredded cheese! simple and delish

and decided why I like Christmas music so much: it's cheery and has so many good connotations. And from now on (I've decided) when it's gloomy and dark outside, I'm going to play my Christmas station on Pandora and feel cheery :) It worked like a charm yesterday!

Today we filled one of the planters with soil:

It's on our front steps, right outside of the door.

It's compost, soil, and peat moss. After I took this photo, we mixed it all together the best we could. This box will have peas, spinach, and marigolds. Right above the box (on the underside of the railing) is a wasp nest. I am torn about it; I want the bees to pollinate the vegetables and flowers, but I don't want to be so near to them, especially as Scott is allergic to them.

And I finally took a photo of our origami boxes! Cute, huh? We cheated and used staples to hold the tops down.

Today I also took a few photos of my more exciting stash yarn to upload on my Ravelry stash page. When I first joined Ravelry I didn't understand why anyone would want to take photos of yarn! (ridiculous, I know.) But after meeting Andi and drooling over her beautiful stashed yarn on Flickr, I've decided it's a great idea! It's nice to have a pictorial representation of the yarn and not just the written name. Of course, it didn't take long to photograph my exciting yarn because most of my stash is boring yarns :)

What's on my plate

Man oh man, my plate is full!

In my last post I wrote about Hugo, the Couch Potato Monster. Hugo (or as Scott likes to call him: Hubert) is nearly finished, I just need to knit and fill his arms. It turns out I needed THREE skeins of yarn in total. I ran out of the main blue color twice, so I ended up using up some yarn that I had previously purchased. Now he is wearing a sweater. More on Hugo/ Hubert when he's finished. He is already stuffed with Polyfill (it took over TWO whole bags!!) and he is the comfiest, squishiest, most delightful pillow EVER!

Here is a picture of Berny for you all :) I think it needs higher contrast, or a black background. I know how to do neither of these.

Remember the hat I knit for my dad this Christmas? Well, one of his neighbors (and a longtime family friend) really liked it and put in an order for one! And she offered me money! This will be my first paying order :) and I am stoked. It is so exciting and I am thankful that she supports my craft! She sews beautiful quilted banner-like scenes so I know she understands the time and love that goes into crafts.

I have also signed up for a swap on Ravelry and am super excited for it! It's themed around Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, or Leap Day :) and with a real birthday this year, there was no way in heck I could pass this one up. My swap partner is awesome and we both love Harry Potter! I can't say much more about this now.

Next weekend I am going to Scott's brother's girlfriend's baby shower (whew!). For Christmas, I knit her a baby blanket and gave her some baby gowns. With the leftover yarn, I've decided to knit a baby hat and some booties. This will be my first time knitting baby accessories (besides afghans) so I am a little nervous about sizing and how little time I have. But they should knit up quickly since they're so little, right?

Let's see, I was also asked to review a yarn app for the iPhone recently, and am just finishing up my review! I will post the review here, so more on that later.

Gosh, I think that is all. Oh! The pair of socks I started for Scott in November are about halfway finished; I am at the gusset decrease. I would really like to finish them in time for Valentine's Day! If I do finish them in time, they will be the fastest socks I've knit so far! (well, that and my second pair :) )

Now all I need to do is make a knitting schedule and stick to it!
