Book Club Baby Shower

Last week our book club gave a baby shower for not one, not two, but three of our expecting mamas! (that is almost half of our total membership!! Someone jokingly asked, What do you guys read??)

Baby shower!!

We spent the evening at a park eating, laughing, playing games. The weather held, though it sprinkled a little on us.

The super adorable cake Abbey made:

Since we are a book club, our gifts to the mamas were children's books!

Halloweening

Last night was Books Crafts Wine Snacks Club and as always, it was fabulous. Autumn held it at her house and she is the best hostess of us all:

so festive and spooky!
These quinoa cakes are amaze-balls!!! As soon as Autumn sends out the recipe link I will post it here because they are fantastic! I could have eaten the whole plate:

We celebrated Abbey's birthday too! No candles, but we all sang a very spirited Happy Birthday to her :)
(our singing needs work)

I was the only one who crafted, though I suspect other girls brought something and just didn't bring it out... These mittens are part of KnitPsycho's Finish or Frogtober KAL on Ravelry:

my craft ...arg

As the name suggests, for the KAL you must either finish or frog an unfinished object that was started before September 1 of this year. No problem, since I started these October 2011! All they need is the green double stitching.

We began discussion on our book Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and will finish discussing it at next meeting since not everyone had time to finish it. I am really eager to know what the other clubbers think about the ending.

That's all for now, Happy Thursday!

WIP Tuesday

I had planned to type this tomorrow, when it will actually be WIP Wednesday (and sounds better), but I am working in the morning so I'd rather write it tonight.

Right now I have two major WIPs, one is this afgahn:

This is perfect afghan knitting weather. On my last skein... almost there!

I have almost knit six skeins, and will probably buy one more to add a little length. It's not a very large blanket, not something for the bed, but it's the perfect thing to cozy underneath on the couch :)

and the other WIP are my Cakewalk socks. I haven't made a lot of progress on them since their last photo so I won't post another :)

Tomorrow night is Book Club!! I will be sure to take a lot of photos of everyone's crafts and of the food :)

Book Club

Ack. We have had two Book Crafts Wine Snacks club meetings that I haven't blogged about ... my problem is I forget to take pictures because I am snacking and crafting. I will try to be better about this because they really are fun events spent with awesome people.

The new book we chose to read is Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. Right now it is second on Amazon's Top 100 list! I spent the entire day yesterday reading because it is such a good book!

via Goodreads
I am oocha on Goodreads if you want to be my friend!

A psychological thriller, narrated in two character voices (Nick and Amy, the married couple). It's difficult to know which character is trustworthy, if any, especially when they talk about the same event. I do think it's interesting that I enjoy reading Nick's narrative much more than reading Amy's, even though this is a female writer portraying the inner psyche of a male.

But, looking at the jacket cover now, I am curious why the author's name is the prominent, top-most print. Thoughts?

Happy Sunday everyone! Mine will be filled with Gone Girl, knitting, and NFL.

2nd BSCWC

The second Books Snacks Crafts Wine Club commenced last night. As usual, we had plenty to snack on:

I didn't photograph the wine selection... but believe me when I say there was plenty!

Miranda "un-crafting" Autumn's t-shirt rug (I think the plan is to add this t-shirt yarn to another rug in order to make it bigger!):

Glue gun is serious business
hahahahahah!!!!

I worked on Stephen West's Mystery shawl! Details tomorrow.

We finished our discussion on Tina Fey's Bossypants and the next scheduled book is Ellen DeGeneres's book Seriously I'm Kidding. I think both these books pretty much sum our little club up...we are bossy, and we take ourselves veeeeery seriously ;)

Sorry for the lack of craft photos but my camera died! I used my iPhone for some of the photos. Next club meeting is in one month, and I'll be sure to have my camera battery charged :)

A couple of gals were interested in the Cucumber Snack I brought. Here's the recipe:

june2011 037
got the recipe from my mom...don't know where she found it!

Cucumber Snack
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 sour cream
  • 8-16 ounces cream cheese (recipe calls for 16 oz but I only used 8 oz this last time, and it tasted great!)
  • 2 heaping teaspoons of Knorr's Leek Soup
  • a little pepper
  • 1-2 cucumbers
  • 1-2 baguettes
  • dill, for sprinkling
Mix all ingredients together (not cucumber, bread, or dill). Spread the mixture on thin baguette slices. Top with thin/medium slices of cucumber. Sprinkle dill over top. Enjoy!

Anyone else stoked that tomorrow is FRIDAY?!

BookCraftsWineSnacks Club

The first meeting of the BookCraftsWineSnacks Club happened last night and it was excellent! We had to get a lot of logistics out of the way first (club name, who was bringing the next snacks, which wine to open first, etc).

We met at Autumn's house and there were plenty of wine and snacks...

First club meeting! woo hoo!

The wine, the snacks, the book...

... and lots of laughter and crafts :)

Autumn made super rings from old sheet music:

Katie led the group discussion about our book, Bossypants by Tina Fey:

She forgot to bring a craft but I think one of these times, Katie is going to show us how to make really cute flowers from scrapbook paper on canvas ! Maybe next BCWS club meeting?
